The Proud Rose

We share wonderful bedtime stories for kids here at Rainbow Story Time. One particular flower, a proud rose by the name of Ruby, stood out in a lovely garden full of vibrant blooms. Ruby thought she was the most beautiful flower of them all, with petals as red as a summer sunset and a pleasant scent that drew them all in. She was arrogant, though, and frequently looked down on the other flowers in the garden because of her gorgeous beauty.

The Proud Rose

A bright morning, Ruby watched the happy daisies sway in the light breeze as the dew glistened on their petals. She mocked Lily the Lily, her friend, saying, “Just look at those plain little flowers.” “They will never know the joy of being as beautiful as I am!”

Lily, kind-hearted and gentle, responded, “Ruby, beauty isn’t everything. Each flower has its own special traits.”

But Ruby didn’t heed Lily’s words. She continued to brag, insisting that no flower could ever compare to her dazzling beauty. The Daisy, overhearing her comments, felt their cheerful smiles fade.

Then one day, a fierce storm rolled through the garden. The wind howled, and rain poured down, bending all the flowers low. Ruby clung tightly to her stem, convinced her beauty would shield her. However, as the storm raged on, the proud rose found herself struggling against the elements.

When the storm finally passed, Ruby surveyed the garden. The sturdy daisies stood tall and proud, while her own petals were torn and tattered. Feeling disheartened, she sighed and murmured, “I wish I could be as strong as them.”

As the sun emerged from behind the clouds, the daisies gathered around Ruby. “Don’t be sad, Ruby,” they said. “You’re still lovely in your own way, and we admire your elegance. Remember, nothing comes easy, and sometimes what we think we want isn’t what we truly need.”

Ruby began to understand the truth in their words. She had been so focused on her beauty that she had overlooked the strength and resilience of her friends. With newfound wisdom, she decided to appreciate the unique qualities of those around her, recognizing that everyone has their own special gifts.

Moral of the Story

We can learn from the Proud Rose story that we can become blind to our own strengths when we are overly proud of who we are. It serves as a reminder that life is difficult and that we should not be angry about things we cannot have. Accepting our differences can improve our lives and our friendships.
